What is the Vision is Yours forum?
The Vision is Yours is a transformative regional placemaking forum that brings together urban planners, community leaders, designers, artists, and public officials to explore innovative approaches to reimagining public spaces across Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area.

When and where is the event taking place?
The event will be held on April 23-24, 2026, at Joe’s Movement Emporium, located at 3309 Bunker Hill Rd, Mt Rainier, MD 20712. will be held on April 22nd at the University of Maryland Architecture building. Programming will include activations of additional ancillary community sites, including the Mt. Rainier Nature Center and miXt Food Hall. 

Is this a new event?
The Vision is Yours is a regional placemaking forum designed as a follow-up to International Placemaking Week in Baltimore, and is shaped by insights and learnings gathered by NDC through a series of surveys and conversations with conference attendees, project partners, and our larger network. This is the second year of an ongoing annual event. 

Why Mt. Rainier?
NDC opened an office in the heart of Mt Rainier, just across from Joe’s Movement Emporium in May 2025. We’re thrilled to host this event along with so many of our close friends and project partners in the neighborhood.

Registration & Attendance

Do I need to register in advance?
Yes, advance registration is required to secure your spot, as space is limited. You can register . Registration to The Vision is Yours Placemaking Forum includes access to the opening and closing programs, breakout sessions, hands-on build day workshops, and evening networking and celebration activities.

Registration rates are as follows:
Standard Registration (available through April 18):
  • General Admission: $300
  • Subsidized Rate (Artists, Students, Independent Practitioners): $150
Last Call (if availability allows):
  • General Admission: $380

What if I can no longer attend?
If you’ve registered but can’t attend, please let us know by emailing [email protected].

Are there scholarships available?
Yes! We’re offering 10 free scholarship registrations for Vision is Yours 2026. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to local residents and community members from Mt. Rainier and Prince George’s County. However, everyone is welcome to apply.
To be considered, please fill out this short scholarship with a brief statement of interest. If selected, you’ll receive free access to the full two-day forum, including all sessions and evening events.



Event Schedule & Activities

What can I expect at the event?
The forum program will feature keynotes, hands-on workshops, community walks showcasing local projects, and celebrations highlighting the thriving arts and business community in Mt. Rainier. 

What do you mean by “build day?”
Roll up your sleeves and contribute to a community project! Throughout the forum, you’ll be invited to participate in activities ranging from invasive plant removal, greening, tactical urbanism infrastructure, and/or temporary muraling work.

Will there be opportunities for networking?
Yes, there will be designated networking times and activities throughout the forum to facilitate connections among attendees.



Logistics & Accessibility

Is the venue accessible?
Yes, Joe’s Movement Emporium is committed to providing accessible facilities. For specific accessibility accommodations, please contact us in advance.

Will food and drinks be provided?
Yes, morning coffee and lunch will be provided on both days, and all participants are invited to join us for food & drink during the closing celebration 5:00-7:00PM on Friday, April 24th. Please indicate any dietary restrictions during registration.

What are my transportation and parking options?
Free street parking is available near the venue, though spaces may be limited, and carpooling is encouraged. Parking options will be shared to all participants leading up to the event. 

Transportation will be provided to and from the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center at the beginning and end of each day. The closest public transit options to the venue are: 
  • The Rhode Island Ave and 34th St Metrobus stop (P1X) is a 5 minute walk to Joe’s Movement Emporium.
  • Riverdale Park is the closest MARC Camden line station and New Carrollton is the closest MARC Penn line station. 

Is there a dress code?
Casual attire is appropriate. If you plan to join any community walks, please wear walking shoes and dress appropriately for the summer temperatures. Additionally, we encourage all attendees who intend to participate in the build day to wear closed toed shoes and work clothes.
